Corporal Lawrence Diggs is from the delta country of Mississippi, but moved to Chicago as a young man. He joined the Corps in 1943, and went ashore with an ammunition company at Peleliu Island. After the war he returned to Chicago, where he worked for the United States Steel Corporation. He resides in Columbia, Missouri.
