Corporal Lee Douglas, a native of Columbia, South Carolina, joined the Corps in 1943 and participated in the invasion of Peleliu. Discharged from the Corps after World War II, he settled in Baltimore, Maryland. There he worked for the Bethlehem Steel Company for forty years. During the last twenty-five years of his employment with Bethlehem Steel he also worked for the City of Baltimore as the director of an urban services agency, referring clients to needed health, educational, and social services. Retired, he lives in Baltimore, Maryland.
